What is STANDOUT?

STANDOUT is a 10-week paid summer research training and career development program that focuses on behavioral cancer prevention and control research

What does the program consist of?

STANDOUT emphasizes collaborative research, oral and written communication skills, career development, and continuity of training and support. 

  • One-on-one mentorship

  • A choice to work with 

    experts in BCPC at either CUNY Hunter College or at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai's Center for Behavioral Oncology 
  • Developing foundational BCPC knowledge

  • Conducting BCPC research

  • Data analysis and interpretation

  • Biweekly networking luncheons

  •  Collaborating with other students to develop multidisciplinary research 

  • Capstone Convention Presentations

  • $6,000-$9,000* stipend, plus additional funds for research expenses and scientific travel

 

*$6,000 is based on completion of the 10-week program.  At faculty's discretion, trainees interested in longer research experiences (up to 15 weeks) can earn up to $9,000.
